Construction Explorer
A lightweight Grasshopper-based exploration tool for early-stage construction-system comparison.
What it does
At concept and early developed-design stages, project teams need to compare construction systems (wall, roof, slab build-ups) across thermal, embodied carbon, cost, and buildability dimensions before any of those numbers are final. Construction Explorer is a parametric Grasshopper component that wraps this comparison into a single iterative interface: edit the build-up, see the headline metrics change, swap a layer, repeat.
It’s designed for the conversation where the architect, structural engineer, and sustainability lead want to argue about CLT vs concrete vs hybrid in the room, not after a two-week study.
Who it’s for
- Architecture teams running early construction comparison studies.
- Sustainability consultants positioning embodied carbon strategy.
- Engineers screening build-up options before detailed thermal or LCA modelling.
What “early-stage construction exploration” means
A fast, low-fidelity read on dozens of construction system options to find the small set worth detailed simulation and costing. Not a replacement for a full LCA or U-value calculation, but a way to get there with the right candidates.
