Bioclimatic Design Consulting
Performance-first consulting for design teams, from concept strategy through technical validation.
What I do
I sit alongside the architects from the earliest sketches. Climate analysis, passive strategy selection, massing diagnostics, envelope studies, comfort targets, and code positioning (TM59, Part O, BCO, DGNB, EN 17037), translated into design moves the team can actually use.
The goal is to surface the performance question while the design is still cheap to change, then keep it answered as the project develops.
How I engage
- Concept-stage strategy sprints: climate scan, passive opportunity map, code risk register, and design recommendations in 1–3 weeks.
- Embedded performance partner: recurring presence in design reviews, with bespoke studies as the brief evolves.
- Targeted second opinion: late-stage diagnostic on a specific risk (overheating, glare, wind safety) where a definitive read is needed.
Methods and standards
DGNB-accredited international consultant. Workflows align with TM59, Part O, BCO Guide to Specification, City of London Wind and Thermal Guidelines, ASHRAE 55, and EN 17037 where relevant. Local climate context built from CIBSE TM49, EPW, and DEFRA LiDAR sources.
Deliverables
Clear, defensible reports. Climate diagnostics, strategy diagrams, comfort and energy summaries, compliance positioning, and design recommendations the architect’s team can carry forward. Where useful, I also leave interactive web reports the client can revisit.
Example contexts
- Concept-stage bioclimatic analysis for a 9,100 m² semi-open plaza (see Micro-Climate Outdoor Comfort).
- Climate engineering training and fellow projects at Transsolar Academy.
- City of London compliance positioning for residential and commercial schemes (wind, thermal).
